I like Neelesh Mukherjee. He regularly submits stuff for GameGuru.in, which can be a bit controversial for me to digest, but this is video games we’re talking about. I can’t, however, stand GameGuru at times. Sure, they’ll occasionally have some Indian gaming-related news that we’d be too lazy to report ourselves, and the interviews don’t hurt either. But other than that, Neelesh pretty much drives the place when it comes to actual content. And by that, I don’t mean taking a press release, quoting about a paragraphs’ worth of text and then slap some half-assed comment that’s supposed to make the thing sound relevant. Because there aren’t a million other sites that could do that for you, right GG?
But this latest incongruity of theirs had my eyes rolling in places I didn’t think were genetically possible to have them roll into. So check it, GG reports about the recent Microsoft GameON Event held in Mumbai. You know the deal already: Mass Effect looking stunning, Army of Two can’t be talked about because NDAs, blah blah blah… you already heard this from us when the event was last held in Delhi. Nothing inconspicuous there. See this quote from the article below, quoting other people important people (Now that’s journalism!):
Vivek Kulkarni is the product marketing manager for Xbox 360 and Games for Windows at Microsoft India. He explains, “We have a diverse portfolio of games across genres that appeal to all, fast paced action games to racing games to light-hearted games that everyone can enjoy.”
His views were echoed by Microsoft E&D divisions’ country manager, Mohit Anand. He commented, “Committed to the Indian market, our efforts are aimed at initiating and building a gamers’ community across India. We are here to promote gaming as an exciting genre of entertainment for family and friends. And Xbox 360 gives them just that, wholesome entertainment that people can enjoy as a community!”
It’s nice to see Mohit echoing the thoughts of Mr. Kulkarni, especially when you consider Mohit didn’t even attend the event. You read that right, Mohit skipped on this evening ball. We would know, since he told us himself, and our claims are echoed by GamingIndians’ Sameer. Have to say though, sure is cool to use the word “echo” when it actually works. Ok, my bad. That was a tad harsh. Frankly, not everyone has English as their first language, especially if your day-job is catering to an Indian gaming audience. If GG felt they need to add in some random press release quote from Mohit, even if he didn’t even attend this par-tay, to make the whole story tie together – hey, that’s cool. More than cool! Its solid ice to me, baby.
Then we come to GG’s bragging rights to the Limited Edition Halo 3 poster that gamers would freely receive along with the purchase of Mass Effect. Yeah, must be great to buy games you yourself can’t be bothered to review on your own blog. Especially when you tease the unlucky ones with details on how limited these posters really are, like so:
![]()
Well, we were entitled to get the limited edition poster of Master Chief signed by Chris Carnet and Joseph Tung of Bungie Studios. What’s more, we got it signed by Vivek Kulkarni too! There are just 500 of these special Halo 3 poster and we got the 449th one.
Applause is in order! But wait, what’s this? Have a gander at the picture above. Since when is invisible ink become such a popular accessory for game developers? Stop, forget that. How would someone know if a game developer signed on your limited edition game poster in invisible ink to begin with? By actually looking at the damn thing you’re trying to pimp to the people who couldn’t get one, with the clearly marked: “Only serial number 001 – 180 of the 500 posters are personally autographed by Chris Carney and Joseph Tung.” Some where in a far-off, derivate galaxy with shitty Warthog AI-drivers, a Grunt is expressing the internet equivalent of “lulz” to his Grunt colleges. No doubt in my mind that they’d be doing the same.
When it comes to these guys and discrepancies, I could go on. But this quagmire was too good to pass up. Thanks to Krishnan for pointing these out. I gotta hook this guy up with Phoenix Wright, yo. Now we just gotta work on his Photochoppin’ Skillz.

lol i wish i had met the gameguru guy at the Game On event. i wouldve given him a piece of my mind (along with a dictionary, thesaurus, and a copy of ‘Journalism for Dummies’). But i guess since we’ve been bashing them ever since their groundbreaking story on piracy, they probably wanna keep to themselves.
