Now, this is one place where we never expected to see Jack with his wrench. After stomping their way through the Xbox 360 and the PC, the Big Daddie’s are all set to arrive on your cell phones in all it’s pixellated glory. IG Fun LLC, the international publishing arm of Indiagames Ltd made an interesting annoucement today at the Mobile World Congress at Barcelona, Spain. According to the annoucement, IG Fun has secured the rights from 2K to bring the multi-award winning world of BioShock on to your cellphones.
Sean Malatesta, the CEO of IG Fun had the following to say on the subject,
We’re trying to do great things and BioShock on mobile promises to offer a whole new gaming experience and unmatched excitement amongst mobile gamers the world over. BioShock is a special game in its genre; it brings an element of conflicting morals which has an impact on the storyline, and, among other things, on the difficulty of the game itself.
Though they didn’t exacly dwell enough on how they are going to bring the expirience of BioShock on the cell phone, we will keep our cynicism aside for a while. Though there was no confirmation if the story would be the same as the PC and the Xbox 360 counterpart, we can hazard a guess that the story will be told through text logs, in the spirit of adveture games.
Continuing in the same vein, Vishal Gondal, founder and CEO of Indiagames Ltd. contributed with the following quote,
BioShock on mobile will herald the next level in mobile game development and gameplay experience. The PC and console version of the game has already been a huge hit and we are confident of replicating the success on the mobile platform too.
All said and done, it will be interesting to see how well does the world of Bioshock transaltes on the cell phone screen. BioShock mesmerised gamers with it’s awesome visuals, superb voice-acting and a style of story-telling quite reminiscent of the cult-classis System Shock series. Obviously sacrifices will have to be made to cram the Big Daddie’s in their bite-sized avataars. Fun IG will have to be really creative to bring to life the city of Rapture the way we love it. It’s heartening to see an Indian game development company taking up the challenge. Here is TAP wishing them all the best!
