MVP! MEEE!

Now it’s not everyday Microsoft gets really generous with you, but we’ve been pretty darn happy that we’ve been swindling quite a bit of stuff from them over the last year. Sure, we had to give them all to our dear readers (who we’re required by law not to slander, torture, maim or kill.. unfortunately) but still, at least some of us got to go to cool parties, eat lots of free food and get hammered on free booze while they checked out boobs. And oh yes, games too.

Having worked our asses for over a year on the site without seeing a single penny tossed our way (come on, folks, be generous, nominate us in your wills, please?), and having lots of bad shit happen to me over the last couple of months, including getting disconnected from the Internet, getting my DVD player broken, an RRoD’ed Xbox 360 and my Dad checking out of the mortal realm last month, I am finally very pleased to announce that I have been awarded the Xbox India MVP 2008 award, which I guess makes me the second person in the country to win one, after GamingIndians’ Ogden Wernstrom, I mean, Sameer Desai, won the first one last quarter.

For all those curious (read: jealous) folks who’re interested in knowing what goodies I get, here’s a little list:

  • A nice award package, weighing in at 4 lbs. I’ll post the contents as soon as I tear the package open once it arrives here.
  • $150 of store credit at the Microsoft Company Store, which includes Operating Systems, Microsoft hardware, Zune players (yawn!), Xbox 360 hardware and games, apparel (which probably will never fit me anyway) and a really cute Energy Sword keychain and some mouse-shaped candy dispensers. (Some candy included, of course, although I worry ceaselessly about what would happen when the candy runs out)
  • A 1-year subscription to MSDN Premium and/or Technet Plus, along with access to the electronic Microsoft Press library catalog.
  • Two billion emails from the MVP mailing lists showing up in my inbox daily from all the people who seem to have suddenly discovered the joys of email.
  • A retail Xbox 360 Elite plus a debug unit, along with complete and total access to any and all Xbox 360 and Games for Windows games, along with a special “priority” hotline to fix any issues I have with my Xbox 360.
  • OK, so I made the last one up, but its what I (and a billion others) want. Hopefully Microsoft India will stick to their promise about hooking the debug-unit-starved country up with some real soon. But seriously, none of what we’ve been doing would have been possible without the excellent team we have that keeps the site going and kicking serious ass with every word that they write.

OK, now that the moment of sanity has passed, I am going to go celebrate my new found celebrity status by having my slaves erect a 100 ft. statue of me and worship me by offering me their gaming hardware and software. And yes, busting their balls by finishing up those impossible-to-get multiplayer achievements on my GamerTag. Oh yes!
