For all those who have been lamenting about the non-availability of Nintendo Wii in India, well, here is some good news. After a couple of false starts and rumors, we can confirm that the Wii is about to be officially launched in India! Making the news even more sweeter is the fact that even the DS will be launched in tandem with the Wii!!
Samurai-India, in partnership with HCL, will be officially launching the Wii and DS on 30th September 2008. In fact, they have already unofficially started supplying the consoles to all the major electronic chains and it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing them on the store shelves. The Nintendo Wii will be priced at INR 19,990 while the Nintendo DS will be available for INR 7,990.
Samurai-India’s website is still under construction but the presence of Nintendo in the URL is more then enough to tell us that we are on the right trail. Keep watching this space as more and more information trickles in.
Editors Note: Our friends over at GamingIndians have some more interesting insight on the impending release of the two consoles. Do have a look.
Update: Samurai-India’s website is now live.

I can very much confirm that this news is FAKE. Registering a domain name with nintendo isn’t a big deal. Just run a WHOIS and you’ll know whose the real owner. Nintendo coming to India is a distant dream..atleast in the short term.

I never thought Nintendo would see India as a viable market to expand in to, since piracy is still at large around here. Awesome news guys! This should help the industry grow

The so called website is just domain registered with some hosting company with no info regarding the product. Fake news.
And funny thing is rediff.indiatimes etc seem to run the same news.

I visited the Game Station located at Mega City Mall in Gurgaon. Sharad & Prateek who are selling the Wii have NO CLUE about the equipment they are selling.
Wii cannot be registered in India. Neither can the Wii Shopping Channel and Weather Channel can be used unless a USA address/city is provided!!
They also do not have any idea about the games they are selling.
While the product is good, I DO NOT KNOW IF IT IS A GOOD IDEA TO BUY NOW AND INSTEAD WAIT A LITTLE LONGER TILL THEY LAUND THE WII ON A LARGER SCALE.

I live in the US and I want to gift my niece in India with a Nintendo WII. Can anyone tell me if a unit purchased in the US would be compatible with television sets in India?

What happened to wii ?
Such a shame the web site is still down.
I called up croma store here in Pune, they say they’ve got the dubai version with a 1 year + the new wii sports resort and the motion plus.
Any one with more insight on this? thanks!
