All the naysayers, doubters and the loads of people pissed off at not having seen GTA IV for the PC in India yet, read and rejoice, for we hold in our hands the first two copies of the game to be officially launched in the country. One’s for Jay to own, cuddle, stroke and love from now until eternity and the other’s an official review copy that we got today morning from the distributor, e-Xpress Interactive.

As we had initially broken the news to our readers, the game has been launched at a price point of INR 499, although this could very well be part of a promo offer that’s being offered by e-Xpress for the initial stocks, so you’ve only got yourself to blame if you find yourself without a copy and the price gets jacked up for the game later. So even if you don’t plan to play this right now until you upgrade that tottering, ramshackle PC of yours, get the game now so you won’t have to worry about paying more for it later.

GTA IV will be available at your favourite game retailers in Mumbai later today and the rest of the country by Monday or Tuesday morning, depending on where you live. The special package, which is available for sale only in India, includes a 2-DVD edition of the game, a Survival Guide to Liberty City and a super-sized poster-cum-map featuring the Lollipop Girl and an expanded map of Liberty City, complete with map legend, so you don’t get lost or confused as you get around.

For all those interested in buying the game and wondering whether this will run on their PCs, here’s the minimum and recommended system requirements all over again. Remember, you will need quite a hefty PC and an Internet connection to activate the game and create a Rockstar Social Club and a Games for Windows LIVE account (if you don’t already have it or an Xbox 360 GamerTag) to be able to play.

Minimum System Requirements

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 / AMD Athlon64 X2 4600+
Display Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7900 256MB / ATI Radeon X1900 256MB
Memory: 1536MB
Free Disk Space: 16GB
Operating System: Windows Vista SP1 / Windows XP SP3

Recommended System Requirements

Processor: AMD Phenom X3 8450 / Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
Display Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8600 512MB / ATI Radeon HD 3870 512MB
Memory: 2048MB
Free Disk Space: 16GB
Operating System: Windows Vista SP1 / Windows XP SP3

Well, we’re off to go get us some good old fashioned GTA lovin’, and hope to see you folks online real soon. And oh, keep watching The ANGRY Pixel for a lot more cool content on GTA coming real soon.

Its well-known that the PC version has a multitude of problems, but I’ll gladly pay Rs. 500 for this over something like Agni any day of the year. Long story short, India needs cheaper games!

Good to hear. Hopefully the copies will make their way to Chennai early next week. And thankfully, Nvidia has released some beta drivers which should help resolve some graphic-related issues.

    Do download before playing:

    Hi,

just got it confirmed from Glasgow in Bangalore. They’ll be getting it by 6.30 – 7.00 PM today!!

but dont think I can go till tomorrow morning :-(

    hope it lasts until then….

  • Jose Says:
    December 15th, 2008 at 5:39 pm

Landmark is now changing their stance – the guy i just spoke to in the Computer Games section says it’s not come and he has not got any confirmation date as of now.

He offered to give me GTA Vice City though…. (grrrrrrrrrr)

By the way, as a reply to the comment made by “winshot” that it would be asier to run to national market and pick up a pirate copy is sheer stupidity for many reasons:

    1) The pirated version requires 4 DVD’s for which they charge 200 bucks
    2) You cannot update the game using the pirated version – yes an official update has ben released by Rockstar.
    3) The pirated versions have problems like “wobbly camera” and “no save” issues. These are not apparent all the time. It increases as you move up the game. Soon it gets so irittating that it’s not even playable.
    4) More hidden checks and counter measures have been added by the developers. We’ll only know of those as the months progress.
    5) Why spend 200 for a pirated game when you can have the ORIGINAL (with all perks and no headaches) for 499 ??? Think logically!
    6) There’s always a chance that the pirated discs are corrupted. If one disc out of 4 gets corrupt, you have to rush back to national market and get it replaced (which is another hassel)
    7) Though we can’t support all games due to cost in India, at least support a game like GTA when it’s offered so reasonably.

Whew that was a lot! I don’t think i wrote so much for my university exams! ;-)

    Ladies and Gentlemen…..

I now hold one of the very first packages of Grand Theft Auto IV in my hands. Picked up from Glasgow Computers (Brigade Road, Bangalore).

An excellent dealer. He charged me Rs 499 as the MRP says and even kept the shop open for me to pick it up as i was coming from about 30 kms away (it was towards closing time)

Everone in Bangalore can rush over to Brigade as he ample stock….unlike Landmark who still doesn’t know when they will get theirs….

    Thank you Glasgow !!!!!

to get an idea of what I’m talikng about chk out this thread on 1Up
    http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3171648

Oh and btw, I’ve tried all day and still havent been able to get the game to work properly!! :-( I have the missing textures prob that they are discussing there. If you search the net some more, you’ll see hell of a lot more problems in this port. Check out the Steam forums also.

I would suggest maybe you should wait before R* release a patch to fix things up.

    bye for now!!

    What’s your problem? Maybe i can help….

    Hi guys,

    (got my copy at glasgow)
I too faced a lot of issues in the game while installing as well as while playing even after installing the patch!!!
firstly got a few CRC errors while installing (never expected that from an original game)
    After installation:
theere are occasions where the loading screen never stops and the system hangs
sometimes i see floating cars!! not to mention the slow frame rates!!!

All the above stuff can be blamed on the comp not being up to the superior benchmark (though my system easily exceeds minimum requirements) BUT the camera really sucks!! While driving the camera doesnt follow u(like in GTASA & GTAVC)…you have to manually move the camera with the mouse which is a pain…i hope theres a fix for that.

Its somewhat of a disappointment….im gonna try tweaking stuff to fix this

    bye

  • pretttt Says:
    December 22nd, 2008 at 11:12 am

    Hi Jose,
sry for the late reply…. was busy (playing GTA!!)

actually I was getting the missing textures problem before installing the patch. I thought the game would update itself to the latest version while installing, but was wrong. Installed the patch manually and that solved the missing textures problem.

there was some issue with the lag, but then I got another 2 gigs of Ram and now I have no probs with the framerate also.

although the gameplay is smooth, I’m really bothered with the lack of AA. The edges look very jagged and this is ruining the otherwise beautiful look of the game. i tried forcing upto 4xAA from Nvidia control panel but not much imporvement.

anyways, really enjoying the game.. reached Algonquin and it is really amazing.

Games for Windows Live… although an absolute pain to install and update, is actually pretty OK once you get it running. I can now see myself really trying to unlock achievements.

    cheers
    pretttt
