 Devil May Cry 4

Two full years have passed since we last had some amazing, finger crunching time with Dante. Devil May Cry 3 was undoubtedly the toughest game in the Devil May Cry (DMC) series. Also the most satisfying to beat. The sheer style factor was unbelievably high and harder you comboed the bigger advantages you reaped. We LOVED that system even if it meant dying 7 times while completeing ONE level. The game was so addictive that we always went back to it for more punishment, suckers for BDSM that we are.

Now hot on toes of Lost Planet and Dead Rising, the new iteration of DMC 4 is on the horizon waiting for the rise. I am sure all of you DMC fans out there cannot wait to take this one for a spin on your hot new X360s and the PS3s. But PC fans dont have to eat their hearts out. Poor DMC fans like me, who dont have the fortune of owning any next gen console can rest easy as the game is also slated for a PC release. Although all the footage in form of screenshots and videos that is available; is on the PS 3 platform, rest assured that the PC version will look tonnes better. It is based on the Lost Planet: Extreme Condition’s engine and judging by the way LP looks on my system, i am happy to say that we wont be disappointed. One only needs a good controller and they are set to enjoy DMC 4 on the PC as well.

But DMC series has never been about the graphics now, has it? The thing that drives the series is the HOT, stylish action. The combo system is really very deep and the strings of combos that you can pull off is truly amazing. And DMC4 is planning on going the same way. The story is something weird and is not really highlighted much by the developers at this point. But from whatever bits and peices that we know off, it goes something like this:

Nero finds himself awakening from deep slumber in company of a mysterious demon hunter community. He has a fractured hand when he wakes up but does not take too much of a notice of it. It is only later that he finds about the awesome power of his hand which he calls the ‘Devil Bringer’ which can zap up the demons and bring them closer to him in combat so that he can give them the ‘what for’. His primary weapons are the ‘Red Queen’ which is a long sword and the ‘Blue Rose’ which is a modded double barrelled .357 magnum. The Red Queen has some sort of a fluid placed in the blade which is highly volatile when it comes in contact with demon blood. The flow of this fluid is controlled by the handle of the sword and Nero is adept at using this fluid based, explosion attack. The Blue Rose is also modded to fire rapid and chunkier rounds of bullets that can literally THROW back the demons with a charged shot. While in burst fire they do enough damage to keep the enemy disoriented and allow nero to get upclose and personal to do his massive melee combos. The combat system is heavily in favor of areal combat. This works out in giving some exceptional combat scenarios where you double jump and activate the devil bringer. This pulls a demon from the ground to your position high up. The combat system slows down your return to ground after this, so that you can all sorts of crazy ass moves right up in the air. You can choose to continue slashing for as long as you like or the bugger is dead. Or you can be a lazy bastard and throw him to the ground. THIS is what we are waiting for fellows. At this moment the details of WHO nero is are skecthy at best. His similarity to Dante points towards him being Vergil, Dante’s twin. But we will know for sure only when the game releases this fall. Dante IS playable however, albeit for a short time. The focus is more on Nero’s battles and his story.

Remember those comabt styles that they had in DMC 3? Yeah swordmaster, gunslinger and the likes? Those styles are retained in DMC 4. Also the good thing is these styles can be changed IN GAME. This will work out extremely well for combo whores like me. Be a ‘Sword Master’ while slashing on ground and lift a helpless bugger to the air and JUMP, change to ‘Trickster’ while in air to reach even higher, activate devil bringer to pull the poor guy to you and change back to swordmaster again and slash all you want at him. Finish him, change to ‘Gunslinger’ and rain down bullets at the helpless enemies down below all the while when comming down. Shit, sorry, i just had an orgasm with all that dirty talk. Also the classic DMC attacks like ‘The Stinger’ where you can ram the sword into the enemy from a distance and ‘High Time’ where you lift the enemy up in the air are reatined. All that and a flurry of new moves and attacks.

The bosses are pretty huge and intimidating as well. In classic DMC fashion i might add. The over the top dialogue and techno music which are the hallmark of DMC have been retained as well. All in all, everything is looking just the way it should for a DMC game. Looks like this is gonna be one helluva party. We cant fucking wait.
