The easy going folks down in Bangalore like to believe that their Mumbai cousins have a daily dose of adrenaline in form of hanging on to the footboard of the local trains during their morning commute. However, it seems like the craving for more of it is what drove them to the Battlefield: Bad Company India launch party held at Khar Gymkhana, Mumbai on 25th June, that featured a paintball competition for the attendees. The winning teams got to walk away with some colorful splotches, a couple of angry looking welts as well copies of Gold edition of the game for the PS3.
All we can do in the meantime is shake our fists in protest and gaze at the pictures, after the jump.
Sandbox games, what’s there not to like? You know, other than nagging politicians and concerned parents. That’s right, a lot. Canadian-based developer Radical Entertainment (known greatly for their work on Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction and The Simpsons Hit & Run) have been busy waxing off PROTOTYPE - a multi-platformed title which some are coining as an “open-world thriller”. The basic gist is: You’re a science-fair project gone wrong, and can make your body do freaky things like lob peoples’ heads off or consume their bodies while taking their form and memories. Sounds thriller-y enough, we thinks. We spoke to Executive Producer Tim Bennison about the various aspects uniquely found in PROTOTYPE, as well as dabble in the topics of GTAIV, possible inclusion of multiplayer modes, and console-specific development.
More after the jump.

For all the Battlefield fans out here in India, the wait for Battlefield: Bad Company just became so much easier. A little email in our mail box alerted us to the fact that Redington and Milestone Interactive are accepting pre-orders for the Xbox 360 and the PS3 version of the game in India. This is good news for all those who want to get the game on Day 1, besides getting to unlock the bonus sniper gun, which is available in-game only if you pre-order.

Russian developer Gaijin Entertainment is no stranger to the games industry. Getting noticed enough to win two awards at a Russian Game Developer’s Conference (or KRI) and also licensing their own game engine Dagor Engine 3.0 to other developers, Gaijin’s left quite a mark in its home town. Globally speaking though, you’d be hard-pressed to remember playing anything these guys have ever worked on. Which is okay, because publisher SouthPeak Interactive, along with the help of TopWare Interactive, will be bringing one of Gaijin’s works over to other language-speaking countries and that too on multiple platforms. And what better way to get someone’s attention by having a gunblade-toting Anime hotty around? We talk to Anton Yudintsev, President and CEO of Gaijin Entertainment, about their swank-looking, action hack-and-slash baby - X-BLADES.
While Niko Bellic has been out and about Liberty City, busy mopping up the 10/10 reviews, another fan favorite sandbox game has slipped in quietly, unnoticed on our radars. After an understated but brilliant debut on the PC followed by PS2 and Xbox, Mafia is set to make a comeback with another gritty tale based in the 1950’s underworld of the fictional Empire City. Just one trailer is what it took for the fans of the original Mafia to start rubbing their hands in glee in anticipation of another chance at exploring the post-WWII underworld of America. Since then, we have seen a constant trickle of screenshots that have kept the anticipation high while avoiding overexposure.
Maybe, just maybe, we made a huge mistake by going in for the Iron Man on the PSP right after having finished playing the excellent God Of War: Chains Of Olympus (GoW:CoO). While GoW:CoO embodies everything that a perfect game on the PSP should be, Iron Man sadly, turns out to be the exact opposite. The game seems to be a dismal failure right from the word go. A2M, the developers of the game seem to have got everything wrong as far as Iron Man for the PSP is concerned. So much so that it becomes quite clear right from the moment you pop in the disk that this is one game you won’t be playing for long, unless you happen to be an unfortunate reviewer like us who have to clench their teeth and bear through the 13 odd missions that the game throws at you.

Before you start shedding tears of joy, let us tell you that the game has reached India but is, as of now, stuck at the Mumbai customs. Our friends over at Gaming Indians have been in constant touch with the people concerned, both at Take2 and e-Xpress Interactive and the news doing the rounds right now is that the game has finally made it to the Indian shores. Considering the general apathy of the customs as far as the Indian gaming community is concerned, it can take anywhere between 7-10 working days before the games clear customs and are ready to hit the shelves across the country.
