E3 2008: Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 Fusion

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 Fusion

Activision showed off a rather brief (and boy do we mean brief) trailer of their next Marvel superhero extravaganza, officially being named Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: Fusion. It was already mentioned that the game would be centering around the Civil War story arc (and possibly Secret War as well), and the new “Fusion” namesake is most likely hinting a much larger focus on team-up attacks/abilities and cooperative play. Witness how I’ve yet to make a Wonder Twins reference!

Comic book mainstays like Iron Man, Hulk, Spiderman, Captain America, Daredevil, The Thing, and Wolverine are present and accounted for. Strangely, the trailer has yet to reveal any of the known plot details, so much as if the Civil War motif isn’t even implemented yet. Guess we’ll have to wait just a bit more. One has to wonder if Activision ever decides to add Nintendo characters in again, they’ll actually let Ninty know before they do.

Embedded half-minute trailer after the jump, jump, jump.

Pre-E3 Hype Train, But Without the Liquor

Draco is quite the sulking Scottish-sounding reptilian

What’s with the recent entourage of game trailers these days? Here we are, already at the brink of having every major gaming website about to be ghastly hammered for the next few days because of You-Know-What 2008, but now it just seems companies are taunting us unfortunate no-showers with so called “new info”. Those trailers that recently popped up for Mirror’s Edge and Fallout 3? Pfft, pass. Then you got BioWare’s Dragon Age: Origins. Sure, it was great to see the first ever official footage to this highly anticipated whopper of medieval fantasia. No actual gameplay, but it’s all lovingly rendered in the new Eclipse engine. Again, it’s the first trailer ever. Slack can be cut. Then those cooky, crazy Canucks released yet another one. Dialogue is more or less the same from the first teaser; some of the actual in-game segments is new, but come on! At least put a god-damn dragon in there already! Cooky, crazy Canucks.

In other E3 related news, Dawn of War II is looking relatively scrumptious. Draco grudgingly agrees, but I bet he really wants to see more dragons.

It’s Coming: Beyond Good & Evil 2

It’s enough to have a grown man weep and leap in joy. Beyond Good & Evil was a multi-platform action-adventure game not too unreminiscent of the Legend of Zelda series, one that earned kisses and applauses from critics on its overall execution, but suffered in sales at the hands of other UbiSoft published titles (Sands of Time and Splinter Cell). But now it’s back. Jade is back! Pey’j is back! And even though the teaser trailer doesn’t give a whole lot of information, there’s theorizing to be had - because I’m just that bloody anxious. Will the series receive a reboot, ala the new Prince of Persia? Does Pey’j still have that you-know-what on his hand? Is Michel Ancel on board? Say, how do pigs have hands, Mr. Ancel? And where exactly are Jade and her chummy uncle, anywho?

Either way, here’s hoping UbiSoft has learned from its mistakes and doesn’t decide to clump BG&E2’s release date with the new POP. Wouldn’t that be the ultimate deja-vu FU? Acronyms are silly.

Trailer Impression: FF XIII, FF Versus XIII

Final Fantasy XIII Trailer

Checking out the new trailers for Square-Enix’s PS3 epics Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII initiates a trademark Final Fantasy impeccable - enlightening, revealing, enticing and confounding any red-blooded gamer in one fell swoop. Bear in mind that these titles are still a ways off; FF XIII has only shown smidgeons of gameplay footage and is scheduled for release in late 2008. FF Versus XIII only has CG-animated cut-scenes to its credit and understandably hasn’t been given an official date. However, the fate of the franchise and the two pillars supporting the massive Fabula Nova Crystallis project are, make no mistake about it, drop-fucking-dead gorgeous in an age where looking gorgeous is about as passé as making an FPS.

Move Up Ladies! GTA 4 Trailer 3 Is Here.

GTA4

The only bad thing about living in India, besides the shitty internet speeds of course has to be the time differences. So when the third trailer for much awaited Grand Theft Auto 4 (GAT4) was announced, it gave us sleepless nights, quite literally. Thanks to the difference in time-zones, we had to stay awake through a good half last night to catch a glimpse of the next GTA4 trailer. Having endured long waits with the previous trailers, we were well prepared for a long wait this time around as well. Thankfully, the wait was all worth it. Before we delve any further, here is the trailer, courtesy, Gametrailers
