First Trailer: Chrono Trigger DS

Shortly after its official announcement, Square Enix has gone ahead and shown off the first trailer to Chrono Trigger for the Nintendo DS. What have we learned so far? Well, let’s see. Akira Toriyama’s idenitfiable art style? Check. Yasunori Mitsuda’s memorable MIDI compositions? Also check. The Super NES quality-gaming grace we’ve come to know and love? A big red-marker colored check there. Assuredly, it doesn’t look all too different from its original iteration, but who cares? Time traveling, a fantastic battle-system, more than 12 unique endings, metal joints and silver points! If you don’t already own a DS, here’s Reason Number “A Billion and One” on why you should. If you have DS, buy another anyway and give it to your house pet.

Also, food for thought. What if Squenix decides to finally bring back Singing Mountain or Zeal Dungeon from the early prototype days as part of the newly planned content? Maybe even localise and pack in Radical Dreamers, while they’re at?

TETRIS - The Movie (As if)

Not sure how many of you heard of Black20, but it’s essentially an entertainment media hub that hosts quite a few decent Web Series and a mess of one-shot parody trailers. Black20’s latest addition definitely categories into the latter segment, taking on everyone’s favorite puzzle game for a Hollywood spin - Tetris. Yes, even I doubt Alexey Pajitnov himself could’ve envisioned a sort of central plot running through his algorithmic-ly, glorious block party of funka-doria. And yet, that didn’t stop Thomas Edward Seymour and Mike O’Gorman from putting together a teaser trailer depicting just that. Tetris, but with a plot. That is, if you can count the uniformly colored blocks representing as flyable objects that can be manned (or womaned!) and used in some form of a vehicle-combat oriented death sport, but without the lasers and stuff. Indeed, just like the Tetris we all know and adore. Ergo, shut up.

It’s simply, dare I say it… puzzling. Ho ho!

Trailer Impression: FF XIII, FF Versus XIII

Final Fantasy XIII Trailer

Checking out the new trailers for Square-Enix’s PS3 epics Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy Versus XIII initiates a trademark Final Fantasy impeccable - enlightening, revealing, enticing and confounding any red-blooded gamer in one fell swoop. Bear in mind that these titles are still a ways off; FF XIII has only shown smidgeons of gameplay footage and is scheduled for release in late 2008. FF Versus XIII only has CG-animated cut-scenes to its credit and understandably hasn’t been given an official date. However, the fate of the franchise and the two pillars supporting the massive Fabula Nova Crystallis project are, make no mistake about it, drop-fucking-dead gorgeous in an age where looking gorgeous is about as passé as making an FPS.

Tomb Raider: Re\Visioned: A Complicated Woman

Tomb Raider: Re\Visioned - Episode 10

Oh GOD! FINALLY! After months of no activity at the site, and most fans having given up the series for dead, the final episode of Tomb Raider: Re\Visioned is now up at the GameTap Tomb Raider site.

The final episode, A Complicated Woman, written and directed by Jim Lee (Punisher, X-Men, Fantastic Four, Batman, Superman) and Christos N. Gage (Legends of the Dark Knight, World War Hulk: X-Men, House of M: Avengers), tells the story of three fortune hunters after the Treasure of Perseus who regale each other with tales of how each one of them killed Lara.

Wrapping up the final episode, GameTap has also announced that the second season of Re\Visioned will feature six animated episodes that will showcase games from “the golden age of Activision” - like Pitfall, Kaboom and Pressure Cooker. GameTap has even partnered with The Hero Initiative that will feature top writers like Mark Waid (Flash, Kingdom Come, Legion of Superheroes), John Ostrander (X-Men, Punisher, Star Wars Republic) and Paul Jenkins (Spectacular Spider-Man, Incredible Hulk, Civil War: Front Line) to bring their awesome talents in to work for the next season

Wii Music Sure Looks Like Fun

I’ve heard a handful of Wii users gripe about how Harmonix’s next musical opus Rock Band won’t be featured on their platform (so far, it’s just coming to PS2, PS3 and X360), especially when Neversoft’s newly-released Guitar Hero III says otherwise. Although at this point, it’s still a debate whether a game of Rock Band’s promise can have so many supported peripherals and still prove to be a commercial hit. Then I saw this video of Nintendo’s upcoming Wii Music posted by 4cr. Wii Music tries to achieve a somewhat similar goal in mind, but with having the standard WiiMote as your multipurpose instrument of choice, making it accessible to those who don’t even own the game yet. Now, you might not be able to strum to popular hits like Foo Fighters’ Learn to Fly, but Carmen’s The Overture doesn’t sound too shabby either.

Of course, if only the Wii would be made readily available in India. Which reminds me, if you’re living in China and happen to be reading this, kindly note how my fists are burning red. And that they’re telling me to defeat you!

Video Interview: Mohit Anand on GFW Live, Ubisoft, and Mass Effect’s Launch

In what concludes our coverage from the Microsoft Xbox LIVE India press event last week, we have a quick two-minute chat with Country Manager Mohit Anand. Just right after Robbie Bach and Alan Bowman decide to hightail it out of the conference hall, those sneaky critters! We discussed with Mohit on whether there’s an expected LIVE subscription target, what GFW Live will mean for India, and the whole deal with Ubisoft. Although that last question doesn’t particularly hold much relevance, especially in light of Tech2’s recent report on Assassin’s Creed, it was something we felt that needed to be addressed. In which case, Mohit doesn’t know the reason himself! So much for that inquiry.

But seriously, do I nod too much in these videos?

It’s About Time: Sonic in Super Smash Bros. Brawl!

Sonic the Hedgehog! Super Smash Bros. Brawl! Sonic the Hedgehog in Super Smash Bros. Brawl!

Really, that’s all there is to say. Watch the trailer over and over until your eyes want to leave your sockets. Man, if this doesn’t make me want a Wii even more now…
