GTA4

The only bad thing about living in India, besides the shitty internet speeds of course has to be the time differences. So when the third trailer for much awaited Grand Theft Auto 4 (GAT4) was announced, it gave us sleepless nights, quite literally. Thanks to the difference in time-zones, we had to stay awake through a good half last night to catch a glimpse of the next GTA4 trailer. Having endured long waits with the previous trailers, we were well prepared for a long wait this time around as well. Thankfully, the wait was all worth it. Before we delve any further, here is the trailer, courtesy, Gametrailers

GTA4 has forced itself into the limelight again and how! With the delays in the release of the game, interest in the game had just started to wane. But with the release of the excellently done time-wrap video of the official box art of the game followed by a virtual avalanche of brand new screenshots and finally the trailer itself, the intrest in the game will be touching an all time high.

Discussion boards are buzzing with activity as the freeze-framers get down to dissecting the trailer line for line, frame for frame. Filled with explosions, car and bike chases and fist fights, this is any GTA fans wet dream come true. The trailer starts with an ecstatic Niko arriving in Liberty City only to be disappointed by what he gets to see. The trailer then quickly affords us a look at many characters that we will be seeing and interacting with in-game. The character models look detailed and quite a departure from the previous GTA games. Facial animation has also been handled pretty well, though don’t expect anything in terms of Half Life 2. Still, it’s a major improvement. That is followed with some car-chases, a couple bike stunts and an awesome shot of a guy falling from the sky and landing bang on top of a parked SUV, shattering its windshield and the car in general.

The trailer also gave us a glimpse of some sequences where Niko delivers some well placed punch and kicks, with gratuitous amount of blood splattering everywhere, and not in the cartoonish way. We also get to see some amount of environmental damage in form of pillars disintegrating with bullet shots. Damage modeling in cars also looks better this time, which we know we will be seeing a lot once we get our paws on the game. Explosions and the resulting particle effects are the best ever seen in any GTA game before. The raging inferno in the background during the end of the trailer needs to bear a special mention for the sheer awesomeness of it.

The trailer has done what it was meant to do i.e. rekindle interest in the game once again. Coupled with some great background music, it sure tops all the GTA4 trailers released till date. We can now only hope that the game hits the shelves without any further delays or we will be going all GTAish at Rockstar.
