Did You Just Wet Your Pants?

Who said gamers don’t have a social life? For all those skeptics out there who believe gamers are those species who just camp in the dark basement and game all night jacking off to the barely-clad Japanese RPG chicks, ten of us hardcore gamers from Bangalore got together to prove them wrong!

Wii Boxing In Action!

So for a change, we moved out of our dank basements and into the spacious apartment, provided so kindly to us by our host for the evening, AtheK. With a Samsung 37″ TV, set at 1080i and a Philips HTS 4750 pumping volume at 1000W RMS, it was gamers wet dreams come true. To complement it, we had two PS3’s, two Xbox 360’s, a Wii and a PSP with shit-load of games. The dude even had a fridge, can you believe that! We were prompt in stacking our forty cans of beer, three bottles of Vodka and a bottle of whiskey in the fridge. With Singstar: Bollywood all ready to go, this sure looked to be an open invitation for some all night drunken karaoke!

Our Watering Hole For The Night.

This place seemed to be the one most visited place, besides the loo, that is, as we eagerly gulped down cans after cans of chilled beer and the occasional vodka shot. It was also where quite a lot of intellectual debates took place that involved how gaming can be promoted in India, if the PS3 can trash the Xbox 360 this year and which are the best places in Pattaya if you are on the look out for lady-boys. Understandably, Psyche_Varun seems to be high spirits after our discussion of trannies, having been there and done that, as the following video shows.

Trannies! Yeah Baby!

It was decided that before everyone gets drunk, it will be advisable that we have a couple of rounds of Buzz: The Maha Quiz as yours truly has been assigned with the job of reviewing the Indianised version of the popular part quiz game. Quite contrary to our expectations, it turned out to be insanely fun, what with four people on the bright, red buzzers, while the drunken audience out to prove their intellectual worth by shouting out answers. Goes without saying that quite a lot of the players were left pissed of with the very enlightening answers provided by the drunken crowd, but all in good humor.

Buzz Session Underway

By now, the party was well underway. Amidst heated discussions about the superiority of the consoles, gamers had a go at Guitar Hero III and Wii Boxing. Thankfully, all the action in Wii Boxing was directed towards the TV and no GH3 guitars were used as weapons to hammer down the point. A short break where tandoori chicken and tikka kababs were washed down with generous gulps on the beer and the fridge refilled with more cans and people were back in business. And that’s when the game of the meet, Singstar: Bollywood was unveiled!

Arun 360 And Anuj Testing Their Vocal Cords…

…and our ear drums. Quickly, the hi-def games were discarded in favor of Singstar as the game took the center stage, with drunken gamers taking their turns in testing out how good they are in shattering glasses and make ear’s bleed. Anuj dominated the stage by systematically eliminating the competition with his singing talent. And a good thing at that considering how painful it was to hear the rest of the gang butcher the songs. I am pretty sure that Rubaroo from Rang De Basanti will never be the same again for me.

Anuj, On Right, Waltzing Through Singstar

Rest of the night passed in a drunken haze where there was a load of awful but insanely fun singing, another shot at Buzz, Mario waltzed through the Galaxy, Drake did some hunting around, bloody massacre in Gears of War, some Master Chief moments in Halo 3 and a bit of PGR4 to boot. There was more but by then the sleepless night and the booze had taken it’s toll on us. But those 15 hours were insanely fun for everyone involved. A short trip to gaming heaven, it turned out to be, something that we are willing to make a trip to again.

Well done boys. For future reference, don’t store whisky in the fridge - it should ideally be stored at room temperature.

    Guys,

We are opening a gaming location called “The Living Room” on Residency Cross Road, Bangalore, in the heart of the city. If you’re familiar with the area, it is in the building between Amaravathi and Chung Wah, right above the helmet shop. We plan to open the first week of June, but you are welcome to stop by earlier to briefly look around before then.

We have eight “living rooms” for group play, each one supporting up to five guests. Each living room has a large high-resolution flat-screen TV connected to a console with wireless controllers. We have several games for check-out, and will keep adding more (you can also bring your own). The consoles are all connected, so the different living rooms can all play against (or with) each other. Pricing is per station per hour, no matter how many games you play or how many players are occupying the station.

The decor is very New York, inspired by some of the more upscale bars, lounges and boutique hotels in Manhattan. Upon entry, you will immediately notice the exposed brick walls and rich wooden floors set in a tastefully lit environment. You will be encouraged to unwind and make yourselves comfortable on our plush couches, put your feet up on the coffee tables, and enjoy yourself in an air-conditioned smoke-free environment. We also provide a small selection of snacks and soft drinks to complete the couch-potato experience.

(Please note: This is not a gambling parlour; we are focusing only on console-based gaming).

Tell your friends. Bring your friends. Make new friends.

    Maniac Enterprises
