Was browsing through the PC game section at Landmark, Forum Mall today when I stumbled upon this nice little offer from EA. If you are planning to pick up a copy of the latest Sims wannabe Spore, then you can pick it up at INR 999 and get a Sims 2 copy bundled along with it. A pretty neat offer if you ask us, considering the two games combined can give your hours upon hours of fun like trapping your sims inside a house with no windows and doors and watch them go insane.
Thanks to Kris Acharya’s Flickr photostream for the pictures.
So who hasn’t been excited about the New Xbox Experience (NXE) coming November 19? With a spiffy new interface, animated avatar support, Live Party with up to 8 friends, Marketplace on the web, Netflix Instant Queue streaming and a whole truckload of features including the ability to copy our games to the HDD and finally, 16:10 widescreen support – the NXE is pretty much the closest an Xbox 360 aficionado can get to the Home / Mii experience without investing in hardware the other side of the fence.
But for all those people who just can’t really wait until the software update rolls out worldwide, Xbox LIVE’s Major Nelson – who had already teased a preview of the NXE for select readers in his podcast last week – has finally announced the New Xbox Experience (NXE) Preview Program. For all those that can’t figure it out for themselves, yes, you now have a chance to get your dirty paws on the NXE almost 20 days before the rest of the world!
All you’ve got to do to earn your chance to join the preview is to head on over to Major Nelson’s blog for the invitation code, which should lead you straight to Microsoft Connect here to take a little survey, where you can enter your Xbox 360’s Console ID (available under the System Info panel under Console Settings on the System blade) and if you manage to get yourself in, you should get your confirmation email on the 29th, followed by a spanking new dashboard when you sign on to Xbox LIVE this October 30.
For those of you wondering about what exactly would be there in the preview, considering features such as Primetime were recently scrapped for inclusion in a later update, here’s a partial list. A more complete list, along with a detailed FAQ should be going up on Major Nelson’s blog real soon. Continue Reading… »
All Fallout fans in India rejoice. After Microsoft India washed it’s hands off the Xbox 360 version of the game and other major India distributors shying away from the PC and PS3 versions of the game, the future of the game indeed looked more bleak then a post-nuclear apocalyptic landscape. Thankfully, Steam has stepped right in to the save the day yet again!
Yee-ouch, what a huge difference a single week can make, that too right just before a major game release like Fallout 3. It was an admirable attempt for Microsoft India to step-up to the plate and try to bring over the Xbox 360 version, so that everyone can hold hands together and play prosperously in our precious nuclear holocaust simulator. But now, not so much. Microsoft India has gone on record saying that due to some “cultural sensitivities” - Fallout 3 will simply not come to retailers (officially, that is).
This shocking news has certainly come in a strange light of instances where several big-name titles (Fallout 3 especially after the whole rating dilemma with Australia) have been getting the launch shaft due to similar reasons. One recent occurrence reported by EDGE was that Gears of War 2 was not to be made available in the countries of Japan (as well as Germany). Would India be denied of some much needed Locust-slaughtering after today’s fateful news with the PIP-Boy 3000? MS India’s Sanjoy John assures us that this is not the case at all, and that India can expect Gears 2 in time for release just like the rest of the world. With that said, at least some of us will be able to sleep easy tonight.
One can’t help but feel a speck of discomfort knowing that one of the most anticipated games of the year is sitting right in front of your two visually impaired eyeballs, yet you’re allowed only so much time to play it before you realize that you’ve barely even scratched the surface. Such is the way of not being able to have a debug unit to call our own, as we’re sure many other reputable Indian sites are fully aware. Leaving that aside, Ren and I, along with another accompanying journalist who wished to be anonymous in regards to this write-up and thus shall here forth be christened “Dinobot”, were invited to Microsoft India’s office in Gurgaon to fool around with a review code of Lionhead Studios’s Action RPG Fable II - which, by the time you read this, should be available in stores today.
Rather than trying to speed-run through the game’s main storyline, Ren and I felt it was best to get ourselves acquainted with the large, open world you’re presented with right after awakening from the initial training you’ll go through as a young pup. Options abound everywhere you go. You could take up various odd jobs, pose for a sculptor, rummage through dungeons in search of loot with your canine companion, or be a complete douche bucket and beat the townsfolk into a bleeding pulp (Dinobot was principally fond of this activity). But one feature all of us were pretty keen on trying was to raise a family. And if having babies meant having to engage in some sex practices of the polygonal variety, hey, no objections here. Alas, little did we know how much work was really required to get things rolling.
(Note: Spoilers!)
Reggie and I happen to be big fans of Sigma Team’s Alien Shooter series, because we’re hip and cool like that. Lots of guns, lots of aliens to blow up, lots of a squishy alien goo and parts flailing about… You know, our democracy can learn a thing or two from this game. Which is why I’m pretty excited to hear that Sigma’s next chapter called Theseus: Return of the Hero is based on the very same series and is readily available for download. For a small minimum charge of jack squat, you’ll be treated to some wicked-violent Smash TV-style shooter carnage. Just the way mother nature intended.
In the Theseus - Return of the Hero game you will find:
- 10 missions, mostly taking place in open spaces;
- Lots of playing locations: forest, village, highway, city battles etc;
- 6 types of weapons;
- Ability to upgrade the main character;
- Inventory shop where you can buy newest equipment between missions.
