Picking up a game based on a an animated movie to review may not seem like a terribly smart thing to do, especially with so many movie-based games having bit the dust in recent times. Examples of such atrocities always seem to leap up at you and having endured a few ourselves, we tend to agree with them to some extent. Videogame adaptation of movies has never really managed to get the cash register jingling. But in a world where anything and everything comes in with a million and one tie-ins, merchandise and what not, a videogame adaptation of a movie is almost a foregone conclusion. We have studiously ignored them in the past but this time we decided to take a plunge. Helping us build our resolve was the fact that the game is based on the movie by same name from the wizards at Pixar. Could the sheer brilliance of a Pixar movie translate into a fun game as well?
Just a day more to go before the doors to Gotham’s city’s Arkham Asylum, a “psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane” are thrown wide open for you. With the Joker at the helm, the inmates at the Arkham Asylum are hell-bent on seeing off Batman once and for all. By the looks of the demo, the game promises to be an enjoyable ride into the dark and sinister world of Arkham Asylum.
The Xbox 360 and the PS3 version of Batman: Arkham Asylum are all set to release in India on the 28th of August, 2009 at a suggested price-point of INR 2499. E-express Interactive will be handling the distribution reins in India. PC enthusiasts will have to wait for their fix a little while longer as the Games For Windows title is set to be released on 18th September, this year.
According to the RBI guidelines, since August 1st, all credit card holders have had to go to their respective banks and get an additional PIN generated. Known as ‘Verified by Visa’ and ‘Mastercard Securecode’, this PIN is supposed to act as as an additional layer of security every time you make a purchase online.
While the idea is commendable, there has been one unfortunate victim of the new security apparatus; the gamer wishing to buy something from the Indian XBL marketplace. While most of the online shopping sites have quickly adapted to the new security layer, XBL India has been slow of the starting line.
Users trying to purchase items from XBL India Marketplace have been running into issues at checkout time like being greeted with an “Authorisation denied” messages. We got in touch with Microsoft India about this and they were quick to acknowledge and informed us that their compliance team is working to sort it out. Hopefully it will be sorted out pretty soon.
Love it or hate it, but you certainly cannot ignore cricket, especially if you happen to be an Indian. With a billion strong populations as a fan-base, you certainly cannot go wrong with a cricket game. Yet, cricket as a video-game has not managed to catch the gamer’s imagination as it should have. While games like golf, football, rugby, ice-hockey etc have had countless iteration, a cricket game would pop in once in a while and then disappear for extended periods of time. And every time it appeared on the horizon, fans of the game wishing to live out their six-sixes-in-an-over fantasies would be waiting with bated breath, hoping against hope that this would be the one that would be the cricket game. EA has tried it before and Codemasters are no strangers to the sport either, with their last cricket game, Brian Lara Cricket 2007 being the latest one in the series. Now Codemasters is back after a hiatus with a new cricket game, in tandem with Transmission Games. We took the game for a spin and see if this is the deliverance all the cricket fan had been waiting for.
We, at The ANGRY Pixel, never really get tired of lamenting about how Mumbai gets most of the gaming goodness and this one only adds to the already long list. Come August 26th and some more salt will be added to the raw wounds of us Bangloreans when Electronic Arts will showcase their upcoming releases to a fortunate crowd at The Trident in Mumbai.
On show will be some of the highly anticipated releases of this year, with the likes of Brutal Legend, Dante’s Inferno, Need for Speed Shift and Saboteur making to the show-floor. Those wanting to get down and dirty will be rewarded by getting their grubby paws on FIFA 10, Dragon Age, Need For Speed Shift and Brutal Legend, much before any one of us does. To top it all, Christopher Ng, General Manager for Electronic Arts Asia Pacific Pvt Ltd, would be there as well to showcase EA’s offering.
Those who can make it should be marking the date on their calenders. We, as usual, will be content with burning up with envy for the time being.
The holiday season is still a while away but the goodies have started rolling in already. Hot on the heels of Sony finally unveiling the PS3 Slim, Sony India decided to add some more cheer to the festivities by announcing that India will be seeing a price drop on the PS3, from an earlier price point of INR 24,990 to a much more enticing INR 19,990, effective immediately.
Sweetening an already mouth watering deal is the fact that the now cheaper console will come packed with two gaming titles, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and GT5 Prologue. Packed with an 80Gb HDD, a Blu-ray player, wireless controllers and two free games to the boot, it hardly leaves the fence sitters with a choice, unless they want to dig in deep and wait for the PS3 slim to hit India. One advice for them; it is going to be a long wait.
For all those who are already whipping out their credit-cards / wads of money, have a swell time with the black-beauty!
