Surely, it wouldn’t be ostentatious for any of us in admitting to be a little curious upon hearing about a new Ghostbusters game in today’s current generation market. Fine, maybe it’s just me. But expecting a good one of out it? Surely, we (as in, I) should not be getting ahead of ourselves! Despite all the 8 and 16 bit titles released and based on the hit movie franchise from the mid-80s, Ghostbusters hasn’t been treated exceptionally well-enough to receive a second-chance for nearly 20 years. Though, frankly speaking, neither has a third full-feature film ever surfaced either. What is an untapped child-hood memory to do!
After being out of touch for a while, our Editor, Krishnan Rajagopal and Sameer Desai from GamingIndians got some time to spend with Mr. Jaspreet Bindra, Country Manager of Microsoft India’s E&D Division. What followed was a discussion on what Microsoft India’s plans are for the forthcoming months. Everything from Windows 7 launch to fate of RROD Xbox 360 consoles post warranty and even unused Xbox 360 kiosks were discussed. Click on the link to have a look at what Microsoft India talked about as our man who was there quickly recounts what was said and what it would mean for the Indian gamer.
If there is one thing that the PlayStation 3 excels at, it is playing host to games that have exactly what is needed to jumpstart the hype-train. Last time around, we had Killzone 2 as fodder for intense console wars fought over a multitude of forums. This time it was supposed to be God of War III but what we are seeing now is the emergence of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves as a strong contender. The original Uncharted: Drakes Fortune was one of the biggest hits on the PS3 platform. From what we have been seen till now, Uncharted 2 is all set to blow right past what Uncharted 1 managed to do. With jaw dropping graphics, a promising single player campaign and multiplayer component to boot, Uncharted 2 is promising to be a treat to fans as well as those new to the series. Thanks to Milestone Interactive, we got our hands upon the recently concluded Uncharted 2: Among Thieves multiplayer beta. As expected, we came away impressed.
I like strategy. It’s always run through my veins even in the days before my first PC. Although back then it existed as little more sticks and stones placed in the mud by a young child; one to whom it represented the soldiers and tanks of a fictional army fighting the kind of scenarios that only the long, hot hours the Indian summer could conjure up in one’s imagination.
Its stuck with me since then; now affording me a set of tools to analyze; to poke and prod at the very foundations and innards of some of the games I play today. It is a morbid examination of sorts; but one that is insightful and always gleaning a bit of perspective regardless. The subject of this examination today is that of the Dawn of War series – and in particular, Dawn of War II.
That said, this isn’t really a review – the time for those have long past. Instead, consider this…an insight and a few thoughts, if you will, on just where it fits in the strategy genre in general.
Been a while since we have had a contest at The ANGRY Pixel. We got our hands on some spare code for Call of Duty: World at War map pack for the Xbox 360 which we would like to give away to you. But of course we can’t make it a simple mail-us-and-enter-sweepstakes kind of a contest as well; what fun is it then? So while keeping it simple, we have decided to ensure that at least a deserving guy gets to win the code.
If you think you should be the one getting the free code for World at War map pack, then just send us a screenshot of your stats page showing your kills and deaths. Hit jump to see an example of what your screenshot should look like. Of course we do not need to tell you that the stat page is available at the Call of Duty website. Email your entries to contest @ theangrypixel . com (without the spaces) with the subject line, “WAW Map Pack”.
Many thanks to Microsoft India for the code.
A simple forum post is what tipped us of. Without any news about the tournament swarming around the usual virtual hangouts, we were not sure what to expect. But soon, curiosity got the better of us and we found ourselves at the Wii Virtual Tennis tournament, held at Bangalore a week and a half back.
Now we have been to gaming tournaments featuring hosts of killer rigs, PS3’s and Xbox 360’s but just like the Wii is trouncing them in sales, so seems to have been the case with the Wii tourney as well. It was easily the best and well managed gaming tournament that we have been to in a while. Pictures and more after the break.
Not to be outdone by its fellow Sony-platform developing brethren, Washington-based Sucker Punch Productions finally gets its chance to show off Playstation 3 owners what it’s been cooking for the past several years. But rather than sticking to its anthropomorphic animal parade of cel-shaded thievery and macking-it-up with police officials in quick-time ballroom dances, Sucker Punch brings an altogether new IP to the mix. inFamous is an open-world action thriller drenched in heavy comic book tones and one hell of an opening sequence. After waking up from a cataclysmic event, delivery boy Cole McGrath ends up in a hospital and learns that he’s the sole cause and survivor of an immense explosion in Empire City, caused by a package he was asked by an anonymous sender to unwrap. To put it in Zero Wing broken Engrish, somebody set up him the bomb. With his entire hometown (what’s left of it, anyway) tossed into mass hysteria, McGrath takes the center of public blame. All this trouble, and for what? Just for a silly plot-device to net Cole some killer electrical powers?
Actually, wait. That sounds quite the bitchin’ compensation deal.

Gamers worldwide leapt in joy at the news of Capcom decision to bring Bionic Commando to the Hi-Def era with a sequel. Not only would the game be a continuation of the original story, but would also take the game out from the limiting 2-D plane to glorious 3-D. While we wondered how the game and more importantly, the bionic arm work in the three dimensional world of the new Bionic Commando, Capcom went ahead and wowed us with videos of Nathan “Rad” Spencer, saving the world yet again with his trusty arm. But like so many other games before this, do the promises made actually make it into the game? Do you actually have as much fun as the guy in the trailers and videos seems to be having? We got to find out for ourselves as we swung our way through the ruins of Ascension City.
Now here is a piece of news that caught us completely by suprise. While talikng to a little bird recently, Dell’s plans of getting Alienware to India slipped out.
Apparently Dell is looking for a launch sometime in July 2009. It will be bringing in an Alienware laptop to test the waters. Initially, only one model will be launched. If successful, we just might get to have the whole product range of Alienware launched here in India.
Now how successful will Alienware be with the price-concious Indian customer but we are sure lot of gamers will be delighted to see Alienware on the shelves soon.
