The Sadhu

The stale news is that the oriental postmodern (or vice versa) comic The Sadhu from the house of “Virgins” will be turned into a movie. This amazing comic series that Virgin Comics started under the name of The Sadhu is a hit as far as its artworks and storyline goes, just like any other comic series from the house of Virgin. This news should have made me jump off my chair.. it did indeed… but when I read about the protagonist who is going to act the part of Sadhu, I sank deeper into the oblivion of my chair. This guy… this guy who is going to be the protagonist of this not-so-highly-anticipated movie anymore, has the ability to ruin a very good plot and amazing scripts. This guy has done it before, and he will.. probably.. do it again… this guy is none other then… well… Nicolas Cage… I liked him in Lord of War, but never had an interest in his ghost busting acting capabilities. Anyways, I shouldn’t be biased, but just cant help it.

Okay lets move on, lets not talk about Cage. Moving on, Shekhar Kapoor is directing the movie. Of course he will. He and Deepak Chopra’s son Batman.. sorry Gotham Chopra run Virgin Comics. Lets count our odds.. Shekhar Kapoor… recently divorced… known for his moody behavior… kinda psycho… busy schedules… okay.. the chances are astronomical that this movie will never get made. Nevertheless, the team has officially announced that they will start shooting in India in 2008. I thought we just had enough of Jolie and Brat.. sorry Brad.

The official release said that "Nick chose Shekhar to direct the film. The Sadhu is an iconic character"… I really want to laugh my ass out on this.. so much that at the end of my laughing spree, I’d want to cry… may I? He chose? Hello..!! I reckon he also chose Ivan Reitman to direct The Ghostbusters. Well, it says that Cage became interested in the project after reading the comic last year.

Whatever comes out of this, I hope it doesn’t affect the great comic series that Virgin has launched. These comic books have some of the great artworks that ever existed in India, and for once, Indians can proudly present some cult comic art to the world. Finally we will be known for something else then illustrated Kamasutra and M. F. Hussain.

Holy Creamy Custard Cakes Batman, it’s been ten years since Duke Nukem Forever was announced. To quote from a Wikipedia Entry:

Duke Nukem Forever was officially announced on April 27, 1997 along with the purchase of a license to use the Quake II engine. Original prototype work on the game had begun as early as January. In August and September, the first screenshots of Forever were released in PC Gamer. In its November issue, Scott Miller stated that the intended release date was 1998. However, 3D Realms did not get the Quake II engine code until December 1997, and the earlier screenshots were simply mock-ups with the Quake engine that the team had made in their spare time. 3D Realms unveiled the first video footage of Forever at the 1998 E3 conference.

We’ve certainly come a long way, baby. But whose to say it won’t get longer! This sugar-daddy’s still waiting for ya.

One of the most under appreciated bands of our times, Travis finally comes out with their fifth studio release “The Boy With No Name”. Although this album is slated for release on the 7th of May 2007, some pirates got their hands on one of the promo CDs resulting in the compilation being leaked on the net. I, for one, couldn’t control myself and downloaded the entire album immediately (Though I will go and buy the original as soon as it gets released here officially :D ).

With this album, Travis returns to its emotional indie soft rock roots. Tracks like ‘Closer’ and ‘My Eyes’ are near perfect (reminds me the brilliance of “The Man Who”). Be sure to give this album a try whether you’re a Travis fan or not.

Who's your daddy?

If the Screenshot above was enough to give you jitters, you are in for a big treat. Codemasters finally opened up to the public releasing information about Clive Barker’s Latest Masterpiece, ‘Jericho‘. The game will be developed for all three major platforms, namely the PC, the PS3 and the Xbox 360. Slated for a fall 2007 release date, Jericho’s storyline will be conceived by the sick, twisted mind of Clive Barker who plans to deliver a truly horrifying and scarring experience to gamers. How’s this for a plotline – “Before creating Adam and Eve, God’s first attempt at a man was a complete disaster who was banished forever into a parallel universe referred to as “The Box.” Inevitably, this aggravated the young whippersnapper somewhat, and he makes frequent attempts to reclaim his place on Earth. Each time, a group of US supersoldiers called the Jericho squad are there to send him back to his immortal plane.”

I don’t know how many of you are still following LOST nowadays . Given the fact how Season 3 started out (godawful) , it wasn’t a shocker to realise that many fans had migrated to other series such as Prison Break and Heroes ;  for they provided answers that progressed the storyline rather than trying to explain already overcomplicated ordeals . Anyways, being a true (and hopeful) LOST fan, I kept hanging around praying that the show would recover itself from a declining slant steeper than the stock market value quadrant of Enron on D-Day.

And yes, it has recovered somewhat thanks to even more complicated explainations thrown into the already swelling bag of LOST tricks. Then again, who cares as long as it’s good TV; I mean, given the dearth of good shows nowadays (I am definitely not talking about Indian TV … Good TV is a myth out here) I anxiously wait every Thursday to download the latest LOST episode and get my weekly fix. With the third season coming to its nailbiting end, each episode is getting better than the last. More and more of our questions are getting answered (How did Locke get his disability? Why does Desmond keep calling everyone else brother? to name a few). The cliffhanger at the end of the latest episode, D.O.C. literally blew my head away (For those lazy enough to find out what the fuss is all about, follow this link for Spoilers). After I collected my jaw from the floor and several minutes of OMG and WTF later I realised that it’s finally back and that too with a bang. It’s back to its original charm that lured us in like a herd of LOST sheep in the first place.

So what are you waiting for ? Get back in line and become a mindless drone trained for only one purpose ; To make the producers of LOST , super-duper rich and famous …. again! :P

PS3 EyeToy

Sony has unveiled its next-generation EyeToy for the PlayStation 3, featuring a host of improvements including new microphone for online voice chat, plus the ability to capture videos and save them to the hard drive.

Dubbed the PlayStation Eye, this new version includes “huge advances in USB camera and microphone technology [and] is set to revolutionise the experience of online communication on the PlayStation Network” according to Sony.

New to the PlayStation Eye is a noise-cancelling microphone which reduces background noise to focus on your speech when chatting to people online. Meanwhile, the camera itself can be used to take photographs and create videos or audio files, which can then be saved to the PS3’s hard drive. The Eye Camera also comes bundled with software – called EyeCreate – for editing or adding “eye-catching effects” to your creations.

Eye Camera can capture up to 120 frames per second, for smoother video, and is engineered to work in low-light too, meaning it doesn’t need a brightly lit room to function properly. There’s also an adjustable zoom lens, featuring a 56º field of view for head-and-shoulder chat, plus a 75º field of view to capture the whole body, doubtless for EyeToy-style arm-waving games.

Sony Europe boss David Reeves said: “PlayStation Eye is a great example of how we have moved forward so significantly with our technology. PlayStation Eye has four times the resolution, twice the framerate and double the sensitivity of its predecessor the EyeToy USB Camera. With the technology that we now have at our disposal we will be able to dramatically improve the communications experience enjoyed on PS3.”

So we’re probably not gonna be seeing that Halo movie anytime soon. Thankfully, Monty Oum (Check out his DeviantArt page) did the next best thing – he made his own. As impressive and outrageous it is to watch, it’s not exactly a full-fledged production; beggars can’t be choosers! At least we get to see everyone’s favorite mechanized Spartan square off against Nintendo’s very own intergalactic bounty hunter, Samus Arun of Metroid fame. Mega-props to Monty and the wonders of 3D Animation Software, certainly beats watching those Character Battle Polls from Gamefaqs. Go watch!

Well, welly, well, it looks like someone DID figure out the passcode to enter the JSF site after all! In more EndWar news, logging in to the JSF site (which can also be accessed from Rev64.com via the ads on the Ubisoft Tom Clancy site) with the password s9p1z6 gives you access to the site, where a woman talks about how the EndWar came about. Apparently, in 2014, the United States and a unified Europe pool together their strategic arms and build a global missile defense system, but when Russia discovers new sources of oil, it monopolizes it, and uses the money to further its defensive and offensive capabilities, dawning a new Cold War. When the United States’ space-based weapons delivery system is destroyed in a terrorist attack, conflict exaggerates, leading to the EndWar.

The page has a couple of links to the forum as well as a registration page that allows you to get more information as and when it becomes available, but the most interesting parts of the website are the flashing pieces of text reading EGM216 (a reference to the upcoming world-exclusive preview of the game on EGM) and two little yellow dots on the bottom left corner, which show a GRAW-like soldier on a future battlefield and another video of an extremely fast aircraft diving towards a city to drop off a bomb. Looks like we finally do have a WW3 based RTS game on our hands, now that Company of Heroes has satisfied our itch for a WW2 based one!

After all the hints, and all the random hunting for letters with the monitor brightness maxed out, the sliding puzzles and hunting on Google trying to understand Roman numbers, the mystery is finally out. And guess what, it’s exactly what we (and a thousand other sites) have been predicting – that God of War: Chains of Olympus is indeed the PSP version of the game. In development by Sony Computer Entertainment and Santa Monica based Ready at Dawn, who gave us the most excellent Daxter last year, Chains of Olympus seems to tell the story of what happened with Kratos in between the events of God of War and it’s newest sequel.

As if a new trailer and the news wasn’t enough, Sony now has a teaser website up here, and while the site bears a “Coming Soon” tag for the most part, there is an option to sign up for a free Chains of Olympus: Special Edition demo UMD, at least until supplies last. So if you know anyone in the United States/Canada who can get the UMD and ship it over to you pronto, just head on over to the site (PlayStation Underground ID required) and register for your free copy. We’re just going to go and start painting half our body and face red, getting a tonsure, a goatee, a (fake) scar and polishing our (foam) Blades of Athena.

The Boob is back! And it’s younger, firmer and more supple than before. Now, now, before you start complaining to the women in our lives about our debauchery, we mean Lara Croft, swear! After delivering a power-packed punch to adventure gaming and rescuing the almost-dead Tomb Raider franchise from the gutter with Legend, Crystal Dynamics has finally put a date on when we can expect to play with lil’ Lara again.

Continuing from Legend’s cliffhanger ending, the Anniversary Edition retells the story of the first Tomb Raider, except that this time, the story is more deeply involved with the plot that was unveiled in Legend. Seeking to understand her future and her father’s legacy, Lara heads back to the past to search for answers to questions that Legend raised. As we’ve already been told, the game will feature a revamped Legend engine and will not be set exactly the way the original was, even though most enemies and puzzles will find their place in the remake.

The much younger Lara, minus her friendly companions and her trusty maghook, will make her way through Incan ruins and the sunken Atlantis, battling humans, wolves, bats, bears and even velociraptors and a T-Rex to get to the bottom of this mystery. Anniversary is exclusive to the PC, the PS2 and the PSP, (WHY! I just got an Xbox 360!) with the PC and the PlayStation 2 versions enjoying a June 5 release date, even as the PSP version gets pushed back yet again. We just hope Anniversary does a much better job with the Tomb Raider puzzle elements as well as enjoying a decent run on the PSP, which is something Legend screwed up on big time! We will have an extended preview of the game as well as our experiences on using the camera to look down her blouse soon enough. Hit the preview image on top to get a bigger picture of the luscious Karima Adebibe…
