Activision showed off a rather brief (and boy do we mean brief) trailer of their next Marvel superhero extravaganza, officially being named Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: Fusion. It was already mentioned that the game would be centering around the Civil War story arc (and possibly Secret War as well), and the new “Fusion” namesake is most likely hinting a much larger focus on team-up attacks/abilities and cooperative play. Witness how I’ve yet to make a Wonder Twins reference!
Comic book mainstays like Iron Man, Hulk, Spiderman, Captain America, Daredevil, The Thing, and Wolverine are present and accounted for. Strangely, the trailer has yet to reveal any of the known plot details, so much as if the Civil War motif isn’t even implemented yet. Guess we’ll have to wait just a bit more. One has to wonder if Activision ever decides to add Nintendo characters in again, they’ll actually let Ninty know before they do.
Embedded half-minute trailer after the jump, jump, jump.
Although Halo 3 managed to reclaim it’s throne from Call of Duty 4 (COD4) on Xbox LIVE a few days back, it did prove the popularity of Infinity Ward’s breathtaking offering. Infinity Ward managed to revive a dying a genre and my, what a revival it has been! So it comes as a no surprise that gamers have been salivating all over there controllers ever since the news of an expansion for COD4 surfaced. Now, while a concrete date hasn’t been fixed for the expansion, there is something more coming our way to keep us busy till the promised expansion shows up.
Before we start, lets get this one thing out of the way – Call of Duty 4 (COD4) is woefully short as far as the single player campaign is concerned. Agreed, there’s tons of fun to be had with the superbly well done multiplayer aspect of the game, but still, once you see the end credits roll, you have this feeling that the game could have gone for a little more.
Now that we have that out of the way, we come down to what we have on hand, which is nothing short of amazing. This is a game that will grab you by your throat and never let you go till the very end, such is the quality of it. Right when you thought that war games were passé, Infinity Ward came out with COD4, completely revamping the series, taking it light years beyond Treyarch’s Call of Duty 3. While it is still essentially Call of Duty as far as the gameplay is concerned, the wise choice of shifting the setting from the much used World War II theater to a grittier, modern day setting comes as a breath of much needed fresh air, even as announcements start to go out that Treyarch will be taking the series back to boring World War II with the next game in the series.
