Continuing with the tradition of our Thursday Top 10’s, we decided to look at something very obvious, but yet very distinct. So far we’ve looked at the Memorable Character Deaths, the Best Weapons Featured in a FPS and the Top Ten Nine (don’t ask) Original Game Songs. This week, we’re doing a run on some of the most memorable video game themes.
Why? Because apart from the fact how great games really are (no, really!), gamers themselves often tend to rate a game based first on graphics, game play and artistic appeal (though not necessarily in that order) – which is pretty much what decides whether its good enough to play. But EVERY game has to make use of sound and it’s plain to see that, what with games like Half-Life 2 and System Shock 2. Music forms a crucial component of the game-play experience; get the right music at the right time, and you feel the adrenalin pumping. But while most newer games now use ambient noise and music, a lot of cue based intros and then outros – the games we’ve all grown up on and loved have always had that catchy tune, hook, phrase or riff that made everything that much more captivating!

And adore you too! Scared? Snap out of it!. Now that I have started off gushing, let me go all the way and state in a civil and courteous way (only temporarily, I assure you), that we thank you for your kind support right from the second the ANGRY pixel went online with the blog. Thanks for what, you ask? Read on:
Because of your co-operation and the efforts of our awesome and (handsome, eligible bachelor) Lead Content Editor, Krishnan Rajagopal, our website is now listed as the ‘Cool Site of the Day’. Check out http://www.coolsitetoday.com/ and you will know what I mean.
But that’s scratching the surface. Or an itch. Whatever. Our site was featured today in Mumbai Mirror (a leading newspaper for young Bombayites, published along with the Goliath called the Times of India ) in the ‘Website Watch’ section of the publication. Talk about a double whammy, eh?
Now we’re about as vain as anybody else (which is, to say, a lot) so we’ll take risk of sounding a bit too immodest, and say that we are proud of our efforts and proud of the guts of our community that has followed us out of our old home on the internet intoto this new pad - where we can stay together until time itself ticks out. That, or Reggie and Kris stop paying the bills. But since that is not going to happen any time soon, relax, we are here to stay.
I expect a lot more hits on the blog and the forum from now because, I know what the ‘Website Watch’ section means to most of the key demographic. Forgive me for being so excited about this, but a full record of TAP’s formation and achievements is in order at this point. But that is a story for another time and will be probably told better by the people who worked much harder than yours truly in the formation of the website.
On a parting note, another round of applause and bouquets goes out to the staff and our dear community members. And also, a hearty and warm welcome to the new people who visit us because of all the articles and the newspaper mention. See, we could have called you n00bs, but we did not! If that does not speak volumes about our character, then what does? We’re very generous that way.
Wow, looks like we managed to get the blog, the forum and the site up and running. Sure, we’re running into a bit of a problem with the forum right now and you guys may lose a couple of your posts (since I am doing the unenviable job of manually transferring posts to the new forum, thanks to the lousy backup system at the old hosting place) but hey, it’s not like we’re gonna lose a lot! At least this will never happen with the NEW forum! (wink wink)
But anyway, considering we have the site up and running, we’ve got a couple of nice, wonderful announcements to make. No, none of us are getting a sex change operation, but what we are doing is giving away some wonderful @theangrypixel.com email addresses, complete with POP3/SMTP support. And all we want in return is your soul, a couple of pounds of your flesh and a few quarts of your blood, bridal night privileges and your first born child! ….. Nah, we’re not that greedy, we just want you guys to start churning out content for the blog as well as the main site, so we can get the show up and running! So, if you have any nice gaming related articles, reviews, previews, in fact, anything related to the gaming world, send it over to us for inclusion on the main site or become an author for the blog.
We’re ignoring what little’s left of our social lives to bring this to you, so please, start churning out content, you miserable lowlives… umm, I mean, loyal friends.. oops, heh heh!
Also, do feel free to let us know what you think of the blog, its new theme and the new forum as well. We’re also getting up a thread at the official ANGRYpixel forum to let you guys vote on what themes you want to see for the forum as well as whatever hacks you think you need. Now that we’ve gotten out of the way, and we have our own little corner of “teh Intarweb”, start blogging and let us know how passionate you really are about your games. Ciao!
