Capcom Unveils TGS “Surprise”

Capcom Drops \

For those that were eagerly watching the three empty “Coming Soon” boxes on Capcom Japan’s TGS website, the details have finally been unveiled. Remember how said they have strong franchises and they will be dropping a bomb on us, well, they dropped a bomb damp squib all right. For all those who were expecting news on Dead Rising 2 or Dead Rising with a co-op mode and an enhanced save system for the PC, weep knowing the fact that the new announcements are actually for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, Arcana Heart and MotoGP, all for the dying PS2. No Inafune, no Frank West, no zombie killfests in sprawling malls set in small, forgotten American cities. We’re still praying for some word on Dead Rising 2 / Dead Rising PC at TGS, not to mention a hint of a playable demo for Devil May Cry 4 on Xbox LIVE Marketplace and PSN, but as of now, all our hopes have been dashed to little bloody pieces on the jagged rocks of reality.

Lost Planet Avalanche on Steam

 Lost Planet

Capcom is on a roll these days with Lost Planet, with the PC versions tons of free content that Xbox 360 owners have had to pay through their noses for, and then some more. The new update and map pack, currently available through Gabe Newell’s personal mint, or Steam, includes four new multiplayer maps, a chat system and DirectX 10 enhancements and will be downloaded automatically the next time you launch the Steam client. Here’s the official word from Valve on the new content:

The update includes:

  • Four new multiplayer maps. Map Pack #2 includes Battleground (an abandoned town scattered with rubble from ruined buildings), Lost Technology (a tribute to 8-bit games), Ruins, (ancient ruins set amidst a lush jungle), and Ice Drop (a glacier with plenty of peaks, nooks, and crannies)
  • DirectX 10 enhancements. Specialized DirectX 10 Geometry Shaders improve overall visual quality through better depth of field effects and improved motion blurring and fur shading.
  • Chat system. A new chat feature includes four default messages that can be sent to other players from the game lobby or while playing.

Have fun!

Devil May Cry 4 To Debut At LGC

Devil May Cry 4

For fans of the stylish hack-and-slash adventure Devil May Cry 4, there’s no better place to be right now than the Leipzig Games Convention in Germany. Why? Oh no reason, other than the fact that the LGC will see the global debut of the fourth installment in the DMC franchise for the Xbox 360, the PS3 and the PC. (Although you’re probably not going to see the PC version there)

Showing at Capcom’s dedicated DMC4 stand at the LGC (Stand C02, Hall 2), fans will be able to play the game as Nero, the new character with the Devil Bringer arm, as they attempt to master the new gameplay mechanics and combo systems that the latest game brings to the series. Oh well, since we won’t be able to go to the LGC even if our lives depended on it, I guess we’ll have to settle for second hand news and the demo to make it’s presence felt on the Xbox Live Marketplace and the PSN at the end of this month. Xbox 360 and PS3 owners, mark the dates, you are soon going to be able to “dance-kill” your way to glory soon enough. Devil May Cry 4 is set to release on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3 later this winter, with no confirmed release date announced for the PC version so far. Hit the jump for the official press release.

The Dead Walk.. Again

Resident Evil: Extinction

A new trailer for the upcoming third and final film in the Resident Evil franchise following hot on the heels of the Resident Evil 5 trailer? Polly like that cracker very much indeedy! Building on the spectacular teaser that was released earlier this year, (you know, the one that showed a completely devastated Las Vegas) the new trailer shows off more of the movie’s zombie bashing plotline.

Set three to five years after the events of Apocalypse, Extinction sees the Umbrella Corporation failing to control the spread of the T-Virus, leading to a worldwide infection that has almost wiped out humanity. When Dr. Sam Isaacs and his team fail to synthesize a serum from her clones, they start hunting Alice down, who has since grown smarter, stronger and faster - thanks to her forced genetic modifications. Racing across the ruins of Las Vegas, Alice teams up with the few remaining survivors, including Carlos Olivera (Oded Fehr), L.J. (Mike Epps), K-Mart (Spencer Locke), Nurse Betty (Ashanti) and luscious redhead, Claire Redfield (Ali Larter) to stop the T-virus menace once and find sanctuary in infection-free Alaska.

The movie, loosely based on the games (as usual), will also feature a number of characters and enemies from the games, including mutant crows, Crimson Heads and Albert Wesker (Jason O’Mara) who may turn into a Tyrant, considering a Tyrant-esque “boss” is featured prominently in the red band trailer. Although a fourth movie based on the franchise was supposed to be made, it has now been confirmed that Extinction will round up the story arc, with director Russell Mulcahy explicitly stating “[]… not all the main characters will survive. As far as I’m aware, this [Extinction] is indeed supposed to close the book.” Judging by the pained cries of L.J. and the teary faces of Alice and Claire, it looks like poor Carlos Olivera may be buying it big time before the end credits roll.

Resident Evil: Extinction is scheduled for a September 21, 2007 release date.

Hit the jump to see the teaser, the trailer and the red band trailer as well as some leaked concept art from the movie.

Devil May Cry 4

 Devil May Cry 4

Two full years have passed since we last had some amazing, finger crunching time with Dante. Devil May Cry 3 was undoubtedly the toughest game in the Devil May Cry (DMC) series. Also the most satisfying to beat. The sheer style factor was unbelievably high and harder you comboed the bigger advantages you reaped. We LOVED that system even if it meant dying 7 times while completeing ONE level. The game was so addictive that we always went back to it for more punishment, suckers for BDSM that we are.

Now hot on toes of Lost Planet and Dead Rising, the new iteration of DMC 4 is on the horizon waiting for the rise. I am sure all of you DMC fans out there cannot wait to take this one for a spin on your hot new X360s and the PS3s. But PC fans dont have to eat their hearts out. Poor DMC fans like me, who dont have the fortune of owning any next gen console can rest easy as the game is also slated for a PC release. Although all the footage in form of screenshots and videos that is available; is on the PS 3 platform, rest assured that the PC version will look tonnes better. It is based on the Lost Planet: Extreme Condition’s engine and judging by the way LP looks on my system, i am happy to say that we wont be disappointed. One only needs a good controller and they are set to enjoy DMC 4 on the PC as well.
