We’re being drafted yet again! Hot on the heels of news that a new Call of Duty 4 announcement coming this weekend, Activision and Infinity have announced today that the fourth installment in the Call of Duty franchise will be titled (surprise, surprise) Modern Warfare and will move beyond the World War storyline to modern times.
There has been no other announcement from the developers other than the fact that more on the game will be unveiled on ESPN during Saturday’s NFL Draft. After leaked information from months ago that said developer Infinity ward, who was busy working on CoD4 while Treyarch busted their butts on Call of Duty 3, would be following in Battlefield 2142’s footsteps and releasing a game based on, umm, modern warfare. While it’s not known for certain whether the battles in CoD4 will take place in current times or sometime in the future, IGN says that they had confirmed way back in February that the development team was “scoping the game out primarily for the Xbox 360 and the PS3″. Way to go, you bastards. First you stiff hardcore Call of Duty lovers worldwide with a console-exclusive third installment and you still have the nerve to do it again for the fourth game as well? While I still love and enjoy CoD3 on my Xbox 360, the fact remains that I want to see a return to the sheer intensity that made the original Call of Duty for the PC one of the greatest games ever. Better get it out for the PC as well, or else….
