PSP Gets BluRay Movies

BluRay on the PSP

I have no qualms admitting it. I’ve been unabashedly advicing people who ask me that the Sony PSP is the best damned investment they can make in the console gaming market, if they can buy only one. No other device lets you be entertained so well on the move, allowing you to watch movies, browse the Internet, listen to music and yes, play games no matter where you are. Perfect for when you’re stuck in a boring meeting, or stuck in an elevator without a sweet thing, or bored to death the next time the Electricity Board decides to see what would happen if they pulled the plug on your power line.

And if Sony has their way, you will be able to see movies of unprecedented quality end up on your PSP straight from your BluRay movie and your PlayStation 3 console. After making the announcement that users on the handheld wonder will also be able to Skype to their hearts’ content, Sony has said that it plans to include special version of the movies on certain BD discs, which when loaded into the PS3 and connected to the PSP, will transfer a hi-def “made for PSP” version of the movie onto its memory stick.

While there’s no confirmation on which discs will start to see this functionality (we’re guessing movies under the SPE banner will be the first to use this, duh), this certainly beats sitting around for the better part of an hour with third party video conversion programs.

Handheld Gaming: What it is and Why You Should Care

Just gotta squeeze in one more!

These last two years have been almost like a plethora of revelations for me. Among those major shocks, there are those I concluded in the following: dogs can sneeze (in all my years, I haven’t seen something this hilarious), frogs reproduce asexually (poor bastards don’t know what they’re missing), girls are a big pain in the neck (and hole in the pocket) and that a guy can actually get bored of kissing. I also realized that if I stuck to my motto of PC GAMING RULEZ, I’d be bankrupt before I could spell M-O-N-E-Y. Consoles and handhelds suddenly started becoming brighter prospects and the term “bang for your buck” has started making absolute sense. For those of you who think this is going to be another of those “PC versus Console” articles, sorry to disappoint you. Instead, I’ll be dealing with the question that has been torturing me the most: Are handheld and portable gaming devices ready to kick their console and PC counterparts out of orbit. And the answer? Let’s find out.

And by the way, if anyone wants to discuss the absolute beauty of a sneezing dog in action, do send me a mail… No shit, I’m serious.

God of War PSP Screenshot Frenzy

God of War: Chains of Olympus

With more and more confusion reigning supreme on the home console front, I still think the PSP is one of the best purchasing decisions I’ve ever made in my life. A face that got reinforced ten times over, thanks to Ready At Dawn’s spellbinding God of War: Chains of Olympus demo.

Reggie’s already got the dirt on the dirt on the demo, and since I really can’t add much more to it without sounding like a hyperventilating, pheromone oozing teenage girl on her first date, I’ll just shut up and post screenshots we’ve managed to lift straight off the game. Feel free to kill yourself after seeing the framegrabs and wishing you hadn’t blown a staggering twenty thousand bucks on a lousy 21″ HDTV instead of spending it on a PSP. Or a DS. Or two thousand donuts. Or twenty high quality blowjobs… Hit the jump to take a look at what could very well be the killer app for Sony’s handheld platform, especially if this too happens to have a mini sex game.

God of War : Chains of Olympus demo out!

Yeah, the killer app for the PSP looks good. I’ve played the demo and I’m a believer. After impressing me so massively with Daxter, Ready At Dawn studios have done it yet again!

Gameplay Screen

GoW on the PSP looks like everything you’d expect it to be! Beautiful and alive backgrounds, hordes of enemies coming at you wave after wave, the frenzied slash-and-maim action that we love so much, gruesome and bloody deaths and Kratos’ STFU-or-I’ll-shove-this-blade-down-your-throat-and-rip-out-your-intestines attitude.

Folklore Coming to PSP

Folklore

Now when the really unique Folklore was announced for the PS3, a lot of unlucky blokes like me, sans console-with-Spiderman-font, were really upset that we couldn’t get more of this sweet little title. But then, being the good guys that they are, it looks like Sony has pulled Shin Megami Tensei creator Kouji Okada from the PS3 version to work on the PSP version now. Sony hasn’t really commented on whether there will be some sort of connectivity between the PS3 and PSP versions of the game, but who cares, as long as I can get me some soul-harvestin’ fun on the go!

Jeanne d’Arc Offers Sample Ware

 Jeanne d' Arc

Forget the Age of Empires campaign! Forget the Milla Jovovich movie! Level 5 shows you Joan of Arc as it really should be in their latest upcoming strategy RPG, Jeanne d’Arc. Out on the PSP in a couple of days, the game’s previews have been flooring everyone who has had a chance to take a look at it, and if others’ word aren’t really your thing, you can experience the game for yourself. Just head on over to the official website and register for a free demo UMD to be sent to your place, so that you can try the game out before you decide to plonk down the cash for it. Should give you something to play until next month when the highly anticipataed God of War: Chains of Olympus demo comes along, that is, if you are lucky enough to receive it!
