Gears of War 2 Blowout

Nothing makes us happier than killing hapless creatures in the goriest, most horribly twisted way possible, which is exactly what Gears of War allowed us to do, and the sequel is all set to deliver come November 7, 2008. Apart from the standard 2-player co-op and the usual (and some new) multiplayer offerings, Gears of War 2 will include a brand new co-op-kinda mode called Horde, which, in a Last Man Standing gametype, will pit players against never-ending Locust hordes in an all-out battle for survival.

In the meantime, check out the new box art and all the sick, new creatures in the game including the Shield and Gun Boomers, the Butcher, the Grinder, the Mauler and the Tickers.

Duke Nukem To Kick Ass on PSP, DS

Duke Nukem Trilogy

We’re still waiting for Forever, but here’s some relief to soothe the pain and eternal anguish we’ve been enduring as we wait for the King of Kick-Ass and Smutty Babes to return. After having been long forgotten, Apogee Software is all set to worm their way back into gaming by reviving a legacy catalog of over 30 titles, as well as working with new developers to create what we assume will be new IPs.

And what better way to kick start the whole thing than with Duke himself? And at E3 2008! According to Apogee’s Terry Nagy and Scott Miller, the company, working with 3D Realms and MachineWorks Northwest LLC, will be producing the Duke Nukem Trilogy for release on the PSP and the DS, comprised of three new missions - Critical Mass, Chain Reaction and Proving Grounds.

The episodes will be released sequentially, with the first one appearing sometime in Summer 2009, and according to the massive feature list on the Apogee website, will include:

  • 9 Different World Locations
  • 36 Action-Packed Levels
  • 3D Accelerated Graphics
  • 3D Characters with Detailed Textures
  • Real-Time Particle and Lighting Effects
  • Multi-Mode Play with up to 5 Different Styles of Game Play Action
  • Multi-Player Action
  • Total Ass-Kicking Weapons

Frankly, as long as we can carry Mr. Arnold Toilet Mouth around on our handheld and squish alien piggy cops, we’re happy. Of course, if you don’t own a PSP or a DS, you could rather just wait for DNF to show up. And wait. And wait…

Gears of War 2 Screenshot Bonanza

Gears of War 2 Logo

Ask any Xbox 360 fanboy what he wants for Christmas and you’ll get just one answer - whether they’re over 18 or not - Gears of War 2. As if all the dirt, the satisfyingly sickening gore and all the endless multiplayer whoring and grenade tagging wasn’t enough, we’re now just months away from becoming “I-eat-nails-and-horse-steroids-for-breakfast” macho men who seem to be stuck at that age where boys discover the F-word and a propensity for random violence.

Even as Gears of War 2, Killzone 2, Resistance 2 and a hundred other shooters jostle for attention come E3 2008, Microsoft has released a whole truckload of painfully-blinding HDR-overload screenshots for fans of the game to drool over and get their testosterone levels high enough to dry hump the Xbox 360 until it RRoDs. And since we’re huge fans of the game ourselves (no matter how funny we find the characters and the story) we feel obliged to share our high-res screenshot and concept art booty with all you folks.

And for all you multiplayer fans who blew me into little chunks every time I signed on, have fun with the all new MP screenshots, as well as the Before / After screens of Gridlock. Me, I’ll just go pin up that luscious Maria Santiago screenshot above my bed. ROWR!

Day of Defeat: Source Revamp Adds New Map, Achievements

Day of Defeat: Source Revamp

Team Fortress 2 may have been the latest addition to Valve’s multiplayer crown jewels, with a lot of Counter-Strike: Source and Day of Defeat: Source gamers temporarily switching loyalties to dealing cartoonish death online. For all those DoD: Source players who have been itching for an excuse to return to the WW2 theater, Valve has just gone and released The Palermo Update to the game.

Along with the Palermo map (a remix of the insanely popular community map, dod_salerno, by Magnar “insta” Jennsen), the update uses the new Steamworks platform to add support for in-game player avatars in the scoreboard and the end-of-round panel, detailed player statistics as well as the revenge/nemesis freeze cam, a la Team Fortress 2. And if all that wasn’t enough to make people come scooching on their asses back to DoD: Source, the game now has 51 new devilish achievements that should keep people tied up with it for quite a while.

And if you’re still not convinced and don’t even own DoD: Source, well, you can still take the game out for a nice test ride, with the free weekend running from July 4th to July 6th. Hopefully that should convince you enough to free up enough credit on your card to get the game.

For more details, check out the Day of Defeat: Source Palermo website here.

New Condemned 2 Screenshots

Hot off the press! Condemned 2 looks absolutely amazing and so far, this looks like it’ll make Clive Barker’s Jericho look like another episode of Pokemon!

After seeing these screenshots, we know we just cannot wait to see this game. Once you see them, you’ll know why! Note to Parag: Please don’t shave the bishop when you see these, mkay?

Review: Gears of War (PC)
23.jpg

There’s nothing more annoying to a PC owner than having to wait for a game that millions of others are already enjoying. Used to waiting ages for games like GTA, Halo and Fable, it came as no surprise to the PC aficionados that they’d have to endure yet another interminable wait for Gears of War, the game that sold the Xbox 360, to get to their beloved platform of choice. And just about a year later, Gears of War finally arrives for the PC, and to make up for all the lost time, brings along enough candy and flowers to make sure you don’t ever remember being stood up on this grimy, bloody date.

Ubisoft Reloads For Rainbow Six: Vegas 2

Rainbow Six Vegas

Rejoice, counter-terrorist hotshots! After months of sheer neglect, Ubisoft has finally announced that a sequel to the highly successful tactical shooter Rainbow Six: Vegas is currently in development at their Montreal studios.

Critically acclaimed for reviving the Rainbow Six series after the load of steaming horseshit called Lockdown, Vegas brought fans of the tactical shooter genre as well as regular FPS fans together in a great meld, before ending with an infuriatingly nail-biting cliffhanger. Announcing Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 in a press release, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has said that the sequel, still set in Las Vegas, should be arriving on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 sometime in March 2008, with a new single player campaign and some surprising additions to the multiplayer and co-op modes.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas has been the effect of a bomb in the world of video gaming in 2006, by introducing in one fell swoop technological advance and innovation in terms gameplay.

We are confident that Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2 will also pioneer in the field of highly competitive shooters and delight fans of the Rainbow Six brand.

This time, though, let’s hope that PC owners get a better port job with fewer problems and complaints and that PS3 owners don’t have to wait months before getting to drop tangos with a well placed shot. Irena Morales, I’m-a comin’ to getcha!
