If there’s just one game that has shaped the face of RTSes over the years, it would undoubtedly have to be Blizzard Entertainment’s wunderkind - StarCraft. Today, in Seoul, South Korea, the next in line to the most famous RTS of all time has been officially unveiled, sending the RTS loving world into a major frenzy.
With the trailer showing how an incarcerated, cigar-smoking, steroid-pumping Terran “jailed-for-multiple-murders” inmate becomes a Marine, and extended gameplay footage showing the various units of the Terrans, the Zerg and the Protoss in battle, the demo showed off a lot of the returning and the new units that will be available in the game, as well as new structures like the new Protoss phase prisms and the deadly, time-warping, planet-cracking, black-hole pumping orbital death machine that is the Protoss mothership.

A W.I.P prototype of the latest release from CyberProt - the dual analog nub PSP! This baby looks so sweet with both analog nubs that you’d think, “Why the hell didn’t Sony think of this?!” While the piece is still a WIP, there’s a video on YouTube of this baby in action. Considering how well placed the PSP controls are, the dual analog nub would be a blessing to FPS gamers like myself.
The real question here is - that supposing God does exist and this becomes easily available as a PSP mod, how will it support existing games? The answer is probably NO - it wont. And thats understandable. However, it does mean that the open source community can write games to specifically take advantage of this hardware. Looks sweet - promises to be great. The future will tell if this becomes a reality for all to use. Who know’s Sony might learn a lesson or two!
As a kid, my brother and I would do this kind of stuff simply because our parents couldn’t afford the NES and we didn’t get pocket money to blow up in video game parlors. (I tried doing that once. ONCE.) So I can totally dig this and relate to it. Gosh! It was unbelievable when we “played” Contra or Spartan or even Double Dragon! Watch this and laugh your ass off. I know I did!
Couple of days ago we tipped you off that the dev team behind the PlayStation Eye’s software, Zoe Mode, were envisaging the device being used alongside a “YouTube-esque back end” which will give users “a number of upload and community features”.Sony got that cracking yesterday in Japan (other markets to follow) with the launch of their eyeVio service. Unlike YouTube (and very much like all things Sony), the only thing it has in common is the fact you’re uploading videos: Sony will be monitoring content very, very closely because “we believe there’s a need for a clean and safe place where companies can place their advertisements”. So no licenced content, then.
As you can see above, eyeVio’s got PS3 on its mind with a controller pictured, but what’s up with the boomerang pad?Could they bring back the boomerang pad with rumble???
