We’ve all seen Sony file a request with the FCC to change the Bluetooth module in the PS3, along with a higher capacity 80-GB hard drive last month. With Sony pulling the 20G model from shelves worldwide, it looks like the new 80G model is all set to replace the 60G model at the top of the PlayStation franchise.
While we just get breast enhancement ads in our inbox, Kotaku’s Michael McWhertor gets a nice little picture showing him a PS3 bearing a new model number (98004) and a larger 80-GB hard drive. Obviously, as Sony indicated to the FCC earlier, all that has changed is the Bluetooth module and the addition of the larger capacity HDD. While the image certainly doesn’t look fake, and we all know how Sony is planning an upgrade to the PS3, we can’t say for certain that this is indeed “not bogus”. Gotta admire Sony’s market plan though. Hey, not a lot of people are buying the lower priced versions so let’s just add more HDD space and charge people some more, just like Microsoft. Maybe then someone will grow a heart and try parting with a measly $600!
